Vaudezilla Burlesque Show

The Golden Age of Burlesque may be over; but Vaudezilla is intent on bringing it back with fervor. Spearheaded by burlesque performer Red Hot Annie, the Vaudezilla production company in Avondale puts on a show with equal parts humor, theatre, and sexiness.

In 2008 Red Hot Annie joined forces with fellow executive producer, Dick Dijon, to combine their twenty years of theatrical experience into producing burlesque shows. They also aimed to provide more opportunities and increase visibility for burlesque performers. Four years later they have gathered a talented troupe of performers, offer a wide range of burlesque classes taught by their top talents, and have gained one of the top spots in the Chicago burlesque scene.

At my recent visit, the sold out Burlesque Bandstand held at Stage 773 got kicked off at the bar with delicious specialty themed drinks in honor of three of their top performers of the evening. A Red Hot Annie cocktail (or two) later and the show was just getting started with the very funny and engaging host, Saucy Jack, and the live ROAR-chestra.

The solo and group performances were soon underway, interspersed with clever comedy sketches and Saucy Jack’s comic anecdotes. Each performance was entirely unique with a delightfully campy nod to nostalgia. The blend between the fast paced 70’s inspired performance by Po’ Chop, French Mardi Gras theme by crowd favorite Marci Vous-Plait, Jeez Loueez’s blues-y act, and everything in between allowed each performer to showcase their individual personality and talents. The show concluded with a titillating performance by the First Lady herself, Red Hot Annie.

Whether you’re a long time fan of burlesque or simply curious to see for yourself what the hype is about, any performance by Vaudezilla will be sure to entertain and excite. Be sure to visit or for the latest information on upcoming events.
