The Local Option has been a Lincoln Park hang out for years. It’s got a rock edge to it and probably the biggest and best beer list in the neighborhood. If you’re in the mood to try something new, explain to your bartender or server what you like and he or she will be able to suggest something to suit your likes and dislikes. They often have limited edition beers on tap as well, and host rare kegs for what they call the “nerds”.

Local Option is one of those places I can always count on for delicious Cajun food. They’ve got some of my favorite beer battered french fries in the city, and I love their po’ boys and crab dishes. On a recent visit I split the shrimp po’boy and a crab cake sandwich with a friend and left very happy. Each dish was well-cooked and perfectly seasoned. If you’re looking for a great classic burger without all the fuss, this is a good one. Their food is so consistent and so tasty, it annoys me I don’t think to go there more.

It’s a no frills atmosphere and the service isn’t going to be all bright and sunny, but that’s the best part about it. You’ll see regulars at the bar watching the news during the week, and beer fanatics packing the place on the weekends. Local Option, I hope you stay in business forever.

About Tessa McLean

There is just something about that feeling when you have been away — maybe for a weekend, a month, 6 months — and you’re driving into Chicago and that first glimpse of the city skyline appears. It just always makes me smile.
