This elegant Italian spot means “little dream” in Italian. And their signature ravioli “piccolo sogno” truly is a dream. Mmm.

Try and grab a spot in the back room, as the front room can be alarmingly bright especially paired with white and cream interior. The menu changes seasonally and focuses on rustic Italian cuisine. Start with a simple salad or a delicate antipasti. It’s hard to not overload on the fresh bread and house olive oil and balsamic vinegar, but try not to. Any pasta course can be made into an appetizer size so you can truly eat as the Italians do. Finish with a meat or fish secondi and we dare you to try and leave room for dessert. Service can be a little overbearing, but don’t let it ruin your meal. Because what you really came here for is the food, which won’t disappoint.

Piccolo has one of the city’s most beautiful summer gardens, so if you want to spring for a nice al fresco meal during the warmer months this is a great idea. Try a bottle of wine from their incredibly extensive Italian wine list and sit back and enjoy this little oasis on Halsted.

About Tessa McLean

There is just something about that feeling when you have been away — maybe for a weekend, a month, 6 months — and you’re driving into Chicago and that first glimpse of the city skyline appears. It just always makes me smile.
