Movies in the Park

Last year I caught a viewing of Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory (the original of course) at the Fulton River Park across the street from the Blommer Chocolate Co. Factory in River West. As we took in the sweet smells of chocolate-y heaven, people dressed as oompa loompas handed out candy bars with golden tickets, and we all enjoyed the childhood favorite.

The Chicago Park District Movies in the Park series makes for a romantic date night or a fun relaxing outing with friends. They are also great for the kiddos, as almost all movies are PG. Get there early for a comfortable spot where you can see and set up your blanket and cooler. Bring the dog too for some added fun — he or she is bound to meet lots of other pooches. Pack a perfect picnic full of wine, cheese, crackers, and other goodies and enjoy the evening! Nothing like some weekday fun to break up the work week.

All movies are free and begin at dusk. The full schedule can be found here. If you’re worried about the weather or have questions, call the Movies in the Parks hotline at 312-742-1134.

About Tessa McLean

There is just something about that feeling when you have been away — maybe for a weekend, a month, 6 months — and you’re driving into Chicago and that first glimpse of the city skyline appears. It just always makes me smile.
