Geja’s is definitely my pick for fondue in the city. Geja’s appears as an underground, dimly-lit paradise smelling strongly of cheese, wine, and hot oil upon entering. Though you will surely smell of it too after you leave, it won’t matter because you will undoubtably be full and very satisfied. Geja’s has been around for decades and is a favorite of lifetime Chicagoans everywhere. It is a great place for a romantic dinner (they call themselves the most romantic restaurant in the city) with cozy booths and lots of red and dark wood. It can be fun for small dinners as well. It is pricey, but worth it, trust me. The food is all very fresh and good quality; they couldn’t trust people to cook it themselves in a pot of oil if it wasn’t. I love getting the combination dinners, mmm surf and turf.

Beware: no cell phone use in the dining area (you probably won’t get service anyway) and no children under 10 allowed.

About Tessa McLean

There is just something about that feeling when you have been away — maybe for a weekend, a month, 6 months — and you’re driving into Chicago and that first glimpse of the city skyline appears. It just always makes me smile.
