Chicago Street Festivals: August 2011

It’s already August? What happened to June and July? Summer will soon be over, so it’s best to get out and take advantage of these final street festivals. Sigh..

Retro on Roscoe
When: August 6-7
Where: 2000 W. Roscoe Street, Roscoe Village.
Price:$5 donation
Basic Info: Lots of live music, street and beer vendors, and a kids stage. Other vendors available as well as an antique car show and a cook-off.

Taylor Street Festa Italiana
When: August 11-13
Where: 1000 S. Ashland, Taylor & Ashland, Little Italy.
Price: TBA
Basic Info: There can’t be anything wrong with a festival with lots of Italian food. Italian food and drink vendors. Live music and a market as well as a Sunday Mass.

Northalsted Market Days
When: August 13-14
Where: 3500 N. Halsted, Lakeview.
Price: $7-$10
Basic Info: This huge street festival features lots of live performance, as well as food and drink vendors.

Ginza Holiday
When: August 12-14
Where: Midwest Buddhist Temple, Lincoln Park.
Price: $5 donation
Basic Info: A festival celebrating Japanese culture with food, beer, and craft vendors as well as Japanese cultural demonstrations.

Chicago Air & Water Show
When: August 20-21
Where: North Avenue Beach, Lincoln Park.
Price: Free
Basic Info: If you are in Chicago the days before the festival, don’t be alarmed if you hear a loud fighter jet souring overhead. To get the best views of the show and enjoy the best tricks, camp out at North Avenue or Oak Street beach early. The show draws over 2 million people.

Armenian Fest
When: August 12-14
Where: St. Gregory Armenian Church
Price: TBA
Basic Info: Food and drink vendors, live Armenian music and kids activities.

Chicago Korean Festival
When: August 13-14
Where: Albany Park, 3200 W. Bryn Mawr Ave.
Price: TBA
Basic Info: Cultural demonstrations, dance performances, and food vendors.

Wrigleyville Summerfest
When: August 13-14
Where: Seminary and School, Wrigleyville.
Price: $5 donation.
Basic Info: Live music, food and beer vendors, and lots of Wrigleyville fun.

South Shore Summer Festival
When: August 20
Where: 1600 E. 73rd Street
Price: Free
Basic Info: Food and beverage vendors and lots of live music.

North Side Summerfest
When: August 20-21
Where: 4050 N. Lincoln Avenue, Lincoln and Belle Plain.
Price: $5 donation
Basic Info: North Center really shines at this fest. Live music, food and beer vendors, and arts and crafts vendors.

Boulevard Bash
When: August 26-28
Where: 3100 W. Logan Blvd, Logan Square
Price: $5 donation
Basic Info: This neighborhood fest benefiting St. Luke’s Lutheran Church has live music, food and drink vendors.

Bucktown Arts Fest
When: August 27-28
Where: 2238 N. Oakley, Bucktown.
Price: Free
Basic Info: Bucktown’s art fest has been around for 24 years with exhibits of local and national artists. Food and beer vendors.

Randolph Street Market Festival
When: August 27-28
Where: 1350 W. Randolph, West Loop.
Price: $10, $5 for students.
Basic Info: This is a more serious festival, more for the buying crowd and less for the drinking, eating, and listening crowd. This indoor/outdoor market features antiques, indie designer apparel, fancy foods, and vintage collectibles.

Taste of Greece 2011
When: August 27-28
Where: Halsted and Van Buren, Greektown.
Price: Free
Basic Info: A celebration of Greek culture with Greek food, dance, and music.
