Neighborhood Overview

River West and the adjacent Fulton River District are part of an area of the city that has been undergoing major changes in recent years. Located just across the banks from River North and just south of the West Loop, these neighborhoods are benefiting greatly from the influx of high-end condos, restaurants, and stores popping up.

Sandwiched by the Chicago River and 90/94, the River West and Fulton River District make up much of what used to be Chicago’s warehouse district. So, it won’t surprise you to find that many of these old warehouses have been converted into trendy lofts and condos.

The neighborhoods are a small pocket of town that up until recently remained fairly quiet, with the exception of some thru-traffic during rush hour to and from the Loop. Several local coffee shops and restaurants have been around for years, but recently new, contemporary spots are moving and making this area a place to be.
