Neighborhood Overview

If having Grant Park as your backyard and State Street as your stomping grounds sounds like a nice idea, this may be the spot for you.

Though the Loop has forever been home to a large number of businesses, there are also several colleges in the area, which adds an interesting young element to the atmosphere. Among downtown schools are the Art Institute of Chicago, Roosevelt University, Columbia College, John Marshall and DePaul University’s downtown campus. But fear not, there’s much more than studying and working to be done in the Loop. State Street buzzes during the day with shoppers and tourists, and as night falls Chicago’s most talented performers take the stage here in the city’s theatre district. The Loop also has easy access to Millennium & Grant Parks, the lakefront, and the North Michigan Avenue shopping district, aka the Magnificent Mile.

Looking for a little city history? You’ll find it here, from the Harold Washington Library to the famous Marshall Field’s building. With a little something for everyone, the Loop truly embraces its role as the city center.
