Is it wrong to say that I love Cafe Ba Ba Reeba almost as much as any of the tapas places I visited during my 6 month stay in Barcelona? Maybe it’s the slightly American spin to things (though the spin is very subtle), but Cafe Ba Ba Reeba is my go-to in the city for tapas and sangria. They have over 70 tapas and pintxos to chose from, so there really is something for everybody in that list. House favorite tapas are denoted in red, and there’s a reason they’re house favorites. Be sure to try at least two of those, and try a variety of things, it’s more fun! And don’t forget all the amazing cheeses.

Ba Ba Reeba is great for a night out with friends, but it can be a romantic date spot too. They have a rather large patio that is often tented, great for al fresco dining. Though you can’t reserve a table outside, they take requests for them, and you’ll usually be granted one unless it is an incredibly busy weekend night. Service is very attentive and always willing to help you pick out your next tapa. Great service is especially important when your dining experience becomes more like a two hour grazing experience. The place is very reasonably priced with most tapas ranging from $5-$9 a plate and large pitchers of sangria for around $20. Recently my group of five ate eight tapas and a dessert platter, enjoyed a pitcher of sangria and one more individual alcoholic beverage each for $30 a person. Can’t beat that for a nice night out in Chicago!

About Tessa McLean

There is just something about that feeling when you have been away — maybe for a weekend, a month, 6 months — and you’re driving into Chicago and that first glimpse of the city skyline appears. It just always makes me smile.
