The Bourgeois Pig Cafe sounds like it should be new, what with the pork fad sweeping the nation even still a year later. But in fact, the Bourgeois Pig has been around in Lincoln Park since 1993, conveniently located on Fullerton right across from Children’s Memorial Hospital. The space has the feeling of an intimate library with a kickass cafe built inside. It’s filled with dark wood and mismatched tables, chairs, and knickknacks that I bet Ernest Hemingway would enjoy. That’s a pretty good thing considering he has two sandwiches named after his books. The Sun Also Rises is a personal favorite, grilled panini-style on sun-dried tomato bread with hummus, turkey, tomatoes, swiss, sprouts, and red onions. Several sandwiches pay homage to other famous literary works such as Hamlet and The Hobbit. You can order a sandwich and salad or soup combo with many of the sandwiches, and don’t forget to grab a cookie for dessert. They’ve also got juice, smoothies, and all the different coffee varieties you could want. Milkshakes, ice cream, and breakfast too.

There is a second floor with quieter seating and a small outdoor patio which is lovely when the weather is nice. Just a warning though, the wifi is not free.

About Tessa McLean

There is just something about that feeling when you have been away — maybe for a weekend, a month, 6 months — and you’re driving into Chicago and that first glimpse of the city skyline appears. It just always makes me smile.
