Whoever said pain is beauty hasn’t been to Beauty Bar. Grab your favorite “hair dressers” (Andy Warhol style) and head to West Town for a $10 manicure and martini. Empty Bottle’s Bruce Finkelman and Peter Toalson have partnered with Beauty Bar owner Paul Devitt to bring the concept to our own chic Chicago. Devitt brought all the signage and most of the furniture from Paris Salon of Beauty in New Jersey and transformed this space into a “beauty saloon” circa 1960. Complete with a row of turquoise chairs equipped with hooded hair dryers, sparkly walls with bubble cut-outs and of course framed pictures of “blue haired ladies”. Nail technicians are on hand in the front, and a DJ separates that lounging atmosphere from the Barbie-pink disco dance floor in the back. This is the ninth edition to the Beauty Bar family, with locations in New York, Las Vegas, California, Texas and Oregon. Each venue boasts its own fanciful flair – Beauty Bar Chicago sets itself apart from the others with impressive DJ guest appearances. This bar is perfect for sipping couture cocktails, dancing, taking glamour shots, and getting manicure treatments. So get gorgeous at Beauty Bar…it won’t hurt you or your wallet!

About Natalie Scheid

When Mattel manufactures your idol and your nickname is Barbie life can get pretty unreal. My favorite activities include cheering on the White Sox (I’ve been converting Cubs fans since 1986), meeting new people and writing on the rooftop with the skyline as my backdrop. You might be able to find me at the opening of a new hot spot, soaking up some culture at a local museum or art show, or enjoying one of the cities fabulous festivals. So…. catch me if you can!

Honestly, I was prepared to dislike this place. When I texted a friend that I was going to a show at a place called “Beauty Bar” her response was “that sounds painful.” Turns out the place is badass! Good people, good music.
