Angels & Mariachis isn’t your typical Mexican restaurant, (it calls itself a “Rock Cantina”) but make no mistake — you can definitely satisfy a serious craving here. The main event is the taco menu, which provides several options (including fabulous fish tacos) for just $2.50 each. The menu isn’t extensive, but the place does great enchiladas, quesidillas and burritos the size of your head. Drinks are affordable, with margaritas at $6 a glass, and fishbowls at $25.
Service is friendly and attentive, at least on a week night at normal dining hours. Our server even warned us that the red sangria wasn’t great and advised us to stick to the margaritas or Mexican beers. (Take note!) The atmosphere is hip, but appropriate for a family dinner out in the earlier evening hours. Speakers pump an eclectic mix of music, ranging from Mariachi to Elvis to The Doors, and decor consists of colorful hanging lamps, red christmas lights, and voodoo-esque skeletons and art.
While this isn’t the place to come for a superbowl party, it’s got a nice bar with two large flat-screen tvs where you can catch a game and enjoy a Dos Equis. There’s also a small outdoor patio out front for the summer months… a great place to sip on a frozen daiquiri!
